The Fund has been managed in accordance with the Operating Principles for Impact Management that set a market standard for investing in which investors seek to contribute to positive social or environmental impacts alongside financial returns, in a transparent way.
Since 2020, the Fund has committed $214 million to impact fund investments, with an original goal to deploy $250 million in investments by 2025, later increased to a $350 million ambition. In addition to the investments made in the Fund, in 2022, BMO joined the Breakthrough Energy Catalyst impact fund, committing to invest $70 million (US$50 million) over five years. Through BMO Capital Partners, BMO has also made approximately $18.5 million in commitments to companies and third party funds aligned to the impact themes noted above.
For business reasons, BMO will no longer be seeking new investments through the Fund and will no longer be reporting against the $350 million goal and we have exited the Operating Principles for Impact Management accordingly. BMO will continue to manage existing investments through the Fund, continue our partnership with Breakthrough Energy Catalyst and continue to make investments made through our BMO Capital Partners group.
